Many words of praise and thanks to Public Works Department Administrator Kevin Warden and his crew of workers for building the shed, the bandstand and for selecting and ordering the overhead & side cover for the bandstand for the DeSoto Farmers’ Market. It is a blessing that the city of DeSoto has so many dedicated and talented people working for the betterment of our community. These additions are wonderful for our market. They provide us with a place to store our equipment and a safe and dry place for our devoted musicians. We sincerely appreciate your craftsmanship and your commitment to helping us enable this market to grow. Once again, THANK YOU.
The 4-H Club of Jefferson County and DeSoto, recently wrote a grant under the direction of Melissa Scheer of the University of Missouri Extension Office in Hillsboro, for $750.00 to help us build the base of the bandstand. When the grant was approved, the building began. On Saturday, June 5th, members of the club ages 7-14, five parents, their director and volunteer Jim Foster, met to plant flowers and bushes around the bandstand. Through the heat of the day and the high humidity these dedicated young people worked to complete the grant requirements. The DeSoto Farmers’ Market is enriched by the spirit of our youth, their values and their dedication. We extend our thanks and our gratitude to all who worked for this improvement.

This is such an exciting time for Get Healthy DeSoto. Our membership is growing and we are spreading the enthusiasm to surrounding communities. We have some significant projects under consideration for DeSoto. As a member I know you understand and appreciate the accomplishments GHD has made so far. I would like to update you on a couple of projects we are working on at this time. Walking/Bicycle Trail in Ritcher Park This would enable people to better utilize Ritcher Park in a healthy active way. The trail would cost approximately $13,500. At this time GHD has $2,500.00 on deposit with the City of DeSoto to go toward this project. Walking Pocket Maps Some of you may have seen the maps we currently have for three different courses throughout DeSoto. Our goal is to print seven additional courses. The total cost of the project is $3,099.50. This would give us 2,000 copies of each new map, reprint 1,000 copies of the three existing maps and would provide 10 outdoor plastic map holders. Get Healthy DeSoto is proud to be able to provide the free membership that gives you access to the many educational sessions, newsletters and activities hosted by GHD. Our intention is to maintain this free membership. P.A.C.E. (People With Arthritis Can Exercise) Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the DeSoto Public Library on Main Street. Healthy Pumpkin Pie (Food.com)
1 ready made pie crust, reduced fat
16 oz. pumpkin puree
12 oz. fat-free evaporated milk
3 eggs (I use ¾ cup egg substitute)
¾ cup Splenda sugar substitute
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Roll pastry on floured surface into circle one inch laager than inverted 9 inch pie pan.Place in pan. Trim and flute edge. Beat pumpkin, evaporated milk and eggs in large bowl. Beat in remaining ingredients. Pour into pastry shell. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake another 30-40 minutes. Pie is done when a knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.
