Dear GHD Member,
Are you one of those people who think you don’t have time to add physical activity to your day? The American Cancer Association (ACA) encourages everyone to re-evaluate how you spend your time. How much time do you spend sitting? Can you use some of that “sitting time” to be active and still get your everyday commitments done? Here are a few suggestions to get you started. *Use the stairs when ever possible. *Walk or bike to work.
*Walk to visit a co-worker instead of sending an email. *Take a walk around the block at lunch and take a friend with you. You’ll both feel better. * Instead of a coffee break, take a walk break. *Wear a pedometer every day to see how you can increase your steps. *While watching TV, use a stationary bicycle or treadmill. *Plan active vacations.
*Turn on your favorite music and dance. It doesn’t matter if you plan an hour long exercise or do several short periods of exercise during the day, it all adds up to activity. The important thing is to get up and get moving!

Donations

Dear GHD Member:

This is such an exciting time for Get Healthy DeSoto. Our membership is growing and we are spreading the enthusiasm to surrounding communities. We have some significant projects under consideration for DeSoto. As a member I know you understand and appreciate the accomplishments GHD has made so far. I would like to update you on a couple of projects we are working on at this time.
Walking/Bicycle Trail in Ritcher Park
This would enable people to better utilize Ritcher Park in a healthy active way. The trail would cost approximately $13,500. At this time GHD has $2,500.00 on deposit with the City of DeSoto to go toward this project.
Walking Pocket Maps
Some of you may have seen the maps we currently have for three different courses throughout DeSoto. Our goal is to print seven additional courses. The total cost of the project is $3,099.50. This would give us 2,000 copies of each new map, reprint 1,000 copies of the three existing maps and would provide 10 outdoor plastic map holders.
Get Healthy DeSoto is proud to be able to provide the free membership that gives you access to the many educational sessions, newsletters and activities hosted by GHD. Our intention is to maintain this free membership.
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution toward the projects listed above please make your check payable to “Get Healthy DeSoto” and mail to Get Healthy DeSoto, c/o Debby Campbell, 431 Johnston Drive, DeSoto, Mo. 63020. All donations are appreciated. We hope you will consider becoming a vested member in these projects.
Thank you for your participation in making DeSoto a healthier and active community.

Sincerely,
Cathy Boyer
Secretary of Get Healthy DeSoto
