Dear GHD Member,
As we are in the middle of the sunny days of summer, health officials are reminding us to protect our skin and eyesight from the damaging effects of the sun. The sun’s ultraviolet light increases the risk of cataracts and is responsible for approximately 20,000 cases of skin cancer every year in Missouri alone. Margaret Donnelly, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, says “Wearing sunglasses can save a person’s vision and using sunscreen on a regular basis can prevent painful sunburns while reducing the chances of developing skin cancer.” Whether you are working outside, gardening, swimming, playing ball or participating in other fun outdoor summer activities, remember to take the proper precautions. Wear a great pair of shades and apply sunscreen to exposed areas of your skin.

Dear GHD Member:
This is such an exciting time for Get Healthy DeSoto. Our membership is growing and we are spreading the enthusiasm to surrounding communities. We have some significant projects under consideration for DeSoto. As a member I know you understand and appreciate the accomplishments GHD has made so far. I would like to update you on a couple of projects we are working on at this time.
Walking/Bicycle Trail in Ritcher Park
This would enable people to better utilize Ritcher Park in a healthy active way. The trail would cost approximately $13,500. At this time GHD has $2,500.00 on deposit with the City of DeSoto to go toward this project.
Walking Pocket Maps
Some of you may have seen the maps we currently have for three different courses throughout DeSoto. Our goal is to print seven additional courses. The total cost of the project is $3,099.50. This would give us 2,000 copies of each new map, reprint 1,000 copies of the three existing maps and would provide 10 outdoor plastic map holders.
Get Healthy DeSoto is proud to be able to provide the free membership that gives you access to the many educational sessions, newsletters and activities hosted by GHD. Our intention is to maintain this free membership.
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution toward the projects listed above please make your check payable to “Get Healthy DeSoto” and mail to Get Healthy DeSoto, c/o Debby Campbell, 431 Johnston Drive, DeSoto, Mo. 63020. All donations are appreciated. We hope you will consider becoming a vested member in these projects.
