Dear GHD Member,
On November 21st, the City of DeSoto, DeSoto School District #73, The Jefferson County Health Department and Get Healthy DeSoto was awarded the 2008 Outstanding Local Government Achievement Award by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments. The award recognition was given to recognize the successful collaboration between the four organizations. Persons accepting the awards from each organization were Mayor Werner Stichling and City Administrator David Dews from the city, Dr. Trish Burkeen of DSD, Director Dennis Diehl of JCHD and Debby Campbell of Get Healthy DeSoto. The presentation ceremony which was attended by 610 people and was held at the Ball Park Hilton in downtown St. Louis.

Dear GHD Member:
This is such an exciting time for Get Healthy DeSoto. Our membership is growing and we are spreading the enthusiasm to surrounding communities. We have some significant projects under consideration for DeSoto. As a member I know you understand and appreciate the accomplishments GHD has made so far. I would like to update you on a couple of projects we are working on at this time.
Walking/Bicycle Trail in Ritcher Park
This would enable people to better utilize Ritcher Park in a healthy active way. The trail would cost approximately $13,500. At this time GHD has $2,500.00 on deposit with the City of DeSoto to go toward this project.
Walking Pocket Maps
Some of you may have seen the maps we currently have for three different courses throughout DeSoto. Our goal is to print seven additional courses. The total cost of the project is $3,099.50. This would give us 2,000 copies of each new map, reprint 1,000 copies of the three existing maps and would provide 10 outdoor plastic map holders.
Get Healthy DeSoto is proud to be able to provide the free membership that gives you access to the many educational sessions, newsletters and activities hosted by GHD. Our intention is to maintain this free membership.
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution toward the projects listed above please make your check payable to “Get Healthy DeSoto” and mail to Get Healthy DeSoto, c/o Debby Campbell, 431 Johnston Drive, DeSoto, Mo. 63020. All donations are appreciated. We hope you will consider becoming a vested member in these projects.
